Mark Wilson makes an interesting comment about Kieran Tierney’s potential return to Celtic.
Kieran Tierney’s passion for the club has made him one of Celtic’s most popular players in recent years.
During his time at Parkhead, the 26-year-old made 170 appearances in all competitions, scoring eight goals and providing 37 assists per Transfermarkt.
Tierney also won five Scottish Premiership titles at Parkhead before joining Arsenal for a lucrative £25 million fee in 2019.
Since his departure, there has been a constant clamour for the Scotland international to return to his boyhood club, with rumours reaching fever pitch last summer, but nothing came to fruition.
Tierney eventually joined Real Sociedad, and he has revealed that his teammates at San Sebastien and his former Celtic colleagues share similarities.
He said, “These boys here are like me playing for Celtic. Growing up, the club is all you know and all you want.
“When I was there in the first team, there were maybe four or five from the academy, but here it’s more like 13 — it’s on the next level. You can tell they have been playing with each other for years. It’s second nature — they don’t need to think about what decision they take.”
Recently, GIVEMESPORT reported that Tierney could be on the move this summer once he returns to North London; however, £20 million is thought to be the’starting point’ for any negotiations, making a return to Celtic extremely unlikely if the report is correct.
Mark Wilson quips about Kieran Tierney’s return to Celtic.
Everyone would love to see Tierney return home, but former Celtic player Mark Wilson does not believe it is likely to happen anytime soon.
The 39-year-old told Clyde 1 Superscoreboard that if he does not fit back in at Arsenal, he will be pursued by a number of clubs.
“There will be a queue of teams for him if he’s not going to fit back in at Arsenal.
“Tierney is undoubtedly a Celtic fan, and I’m sure he’d love to come back and represent the club again, but when he’s at the peak of his career, he’s earning x amount of pounds. Celtic will never be able to match it, and unfortunately, I cannot see that happening this summer.”
Kieran Tierney’s return to Celtic would be a difficult ask.
Undoubtedly, we’d all like to see Celtic go all out to sign Tierney; however, he is currently reported to earn around £110,000 per week, which is simply too high per Salary Sport.
It’s unclear what would be required for a deal to go through, but it appears that the prospect of him returning to Parkhead will have to remain a pleasant thought for the time being.
One day, a set of circumstances may present an opportunity to bring Tierney back on board; however, this is more likely to occur later in his career.
