Mavericks provide major injury update for veteran guard ahead of Thunder series.

The Dallas Mavericks had the worst injury luck at the end of their series with the Clippers, losing Maxi Kleber for several weeks with a shoulder injury and Luka Doncic’s knee injury, which continues to linger.

This is less than ideal as they prepare for their series against the Oklahoma City Thunder, and Kleber’s injury may damage this squad far more than many know.

While the Mavericks will be missing Kleber and most likely Olivier-Maxence Prosper for the duration of the Thunder series, one of their important players could return in this series.

Tim Hardaway Jr. returned to Mavs practice on Sunday.

Tim Hardaway Jr. hurt his ankle in Game 2 against the Clippers, worsened it in practice during the middle of the series when he was on the verge of returning, and may now return at the start of the series against the Thunder.

Jason Kidd stated that Hardaway Jr. returned to practice on Sunday, which is a major indicator of progress toward his future return. The Mavericks need a third scorer to complement Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, and Hardaway Jr. could provide that when he returns.

Hardaway Jr. wasn’t playing particularly well when he was healthy during the Clippers series, but there’s a chance he’ll break out of his shooting slump just in time for the Thunder series.

The Mavs will need to be at their best to defeat Oklahoma City and progress to the Western Conference Finals, and a Hardaway Jr. shooting renaissance may be the perfect prescription for success.

It’s unknown when Hardaway Jr. will return to in-game action, but his practice on Sunday is a good sign that he’ll be back at some time during Dallas’ series with the Thunder.

Stay in for all the latest on Luka Doncic, Tim Hardaway Jr., and the Dallas Mavericks as they compete in the 2024 NBA Playoffs.
