Michael Stewart believes Celtic will beat Rangers to the title, but another pundit believes it is ‘far from over’.

Brendan Rodgers’ league leaders dropped rare points at Parkhead as Motherwell equalised in the 90th minute, but Rangers were unable to capitalise with a last-gasp equaliser of their own at Aberdeen.

Michael Stewart believes Celtic will win the league title again, while his fellow BBC pundit believes the race with Rangers is ‘far from over’.

Motherwell scored a 90th-minute equaliser to secure a share of the spoils as Brendan Rodgers’ league leaders dropped rare points at Parkhead. Liam Kelly denied Luis Palma from the penalty spot before David Turnbull scored from 12-yards with four minutes remaining to secure a narrow victory. The visitors, on the other hand, had other plans, with Jonathan Obika sending the away fans wild after glancing home from a corner.

Philippe Clement and his Light Blues had the perfect opportunity to close the gap on their Glasgow rivals at the top, but they had to settle for a point after a late VAR call deemed a pull on Connor Goldson, with James Tavernier scoring from the penalty spot in added time. Bojan Miovski put the Dons ahead early on, and a combination of Kelle Roos saves and the woodwork kept the Rangers at bay. Pundit Stewart has written off the Ibrox men’s title hopes this season, insisting that the Viaplay Cup Final is a’much bigger statement’.

Kenny Miller, who played for both Celtic and Rangers, believes Clement and company are still in the race, declaring it ‘far from over,’ but admits they must win games like the one at Pittodrie in order to compete.

Philippe Clement will very quickly understand the pressures of managing Rangers insists Celtic rival Brendan Rodgers | The Scottish Sun

Stewart said on Sportscene, “It was a big game today that Rangers have dropped points in. I don’t see Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic side dropping enough points for Rangers to go immaculately throughout the season to get themselves into the fight for it.

“I think Celtic will win the title. Certainly under Philippe Clement Rangers have improved, but I don’t see it enough for them to go and challenge for the title. The cup final for me is a bigger game for Rangers than today was.

“Even if they had won that, I still think Celtic will have enough. But getting their hands on that silverware, the first of the season, is a much bigger statement.”

“Today was an opportunity to really go and show that you’re serious,” Miller added. It was about getting into a title challenge at probably the second toughest venue on the card in terms of everything that comes along with that fixture. And you’ve went and just fallen short.

“Philippe Clement and his players may feel they could have won it with the chances, that’s fine but they never won it. They never got the job done so for me it is two-points dropped as much as it was an injury-time equaliser. That was a chance to make a statement.

“If they want to get into a title challenge – it is far from over – but they need to win games like that.”
