MLS Injury Report Roundup: San Diego’s Player Comeback, LAFC’s Duo update, FC Cincinnati And Chicago Fire Player Out, One Questionable.

San Diego FC will receive a major boost this weekend as Mexican star Chucky Lozano returns from a four-week layoff due to a hamstring injury.

Meanwhile, LAFC has cleared veteran striker Olivier Giroud to play, though Jeremy Ebobisse now finds himself on the injury report.

Lozano Set for Bench Role in San Diego Comeback

Lozano, San Diego’s first Designated Player signing, was expected to be a key figure in the expansion team’s inaugural season. However, his early exit in Matchday 2 dampened what was meant to be a celebratory occasion at SnapDragon Stadium.

San Diego FC manager Mikey Varas indicated earlier this week that Lozano would be available in a substitute role, and his absence from the official MLS Player Status report for Matchday 6 confirms that he is fit to play.

LAFC’s Giroud Returns, But Ebobisse Questionable

Olivier Giroud, who had been sidelined with a minor leg issue for two weeks, is available for LAFC. The French striker is still searching for his first MLS goal after 13 appearances, making his return crucial for an LAFC side in need of attacking firepower. However, Jeremy Ebobisse has now appeared on the injury report with a leg injury, adding uncertainty to LAFC’s forward options.

FC Cincinnati’s Yuya Kubo Ruled Out Against Nashville

Cincinnati will be without Yuya Kubo, one of their most versatile players, as they face Nashville SC on Saturday. Kubo suffered a leg injury and played 81 minutes in last week’s 2-2 draw against Atlanta United before being ruled out.

While Kubo is primarily a central midfielder, he has been deployed in multiple roles, from second striker to outside back. His absence adds to Cincinnati’s growing injury list, which already includes center back Matt Miazga. However, the club will receive a boost as Miles Robinson is set to return after missing last week’s game due to illness.

Charlotte FC’s Tim Ream Questionable with Illness

Charlotte FC may be without key defender Tim Ream for a second straight match, as he remains questionable due to illness. Ream was one of two Charlotte players who were away on international duty with the USMNT last week.

Despite his absence, Charlotte didn’t miss a beat in their previous match, storming to a 4-1 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes.

Chicago Fire: Gutierrez Out, Acosta Questionable

The Chicago Fire will be without Brian Gutierrez, who suffered a lower-body injury while on international duty with the USMNT. However, there is positive news as Kellyn Acosta has been upgraded to questionable after dealing with a similar issue.

If Acosta plays, it will mark his first appearance since March 8, when he was forced off after 31 minutes in Chicago’s victory over FC Dallas. The Fire will look to bounce back at home against winless CF Montreal as they manage their squad’s fitness concerns.

With key players returning and fresh injury concerns emerging, MLS teams will need to navigate their squad rotations carefully heading into Matchday 6.
