Morgan Gibbs-White appears to react England training squad omission
A possible reaction from Morgan Gibbs-White to not being included in the England team has been revealed.
Before this summer’s European Championship in Germany, Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate announced a 33-man training squad, with 26 expected to make the trip.
Big names like Marcus Rashford and Ben Chilwell were left out, but notable actors like Luke Shaw, Ivan Toney, and Adam Wharton were all included.
Despite a run of strong performances for Nottingham Forest and England’s Under-21 team, Gibbs-White was passed over for a spot in the camp ahead of next month’s competition.
Shortly after the squad was revealed, the midfield player took to social media and appeared to respond to the news before quickly removing the post.
After the squad was revealed, 24-year-old Gibbs-White shared four laughing face emojis on his Instagram story, which he later removed. However, fans snapped a screenshot of the message right away.
Although the midfielder has not yet received a senior cap from Southgate or England, he has made 19 appearances for the U21 team and was a member of the team that won the U21 Euros the previous year.
He has been a longtime candidate for a spot in the senior squad, but he has lost out once more and will have to wait until the following season at the latest in order to resume his international football career.
Gibbs-White isn’t helped by the abundance of options England has at his attacking midfield position. James Maddison, Eberechi Eze, and Jude Bellingham are all prime candidates for selection.
This season in the Premier League, Gibbs-White recorded five goals and ten assists while Eze recorded 11 goals and four assists in ten fewer games.
In contrast, Maddison completed 28 games with four goals and nine assists.
Since joining Forest for £42.5 million in 2022 after leaving Wolves, Gibbs-White, who has also received caps for England at the U19, U18, U17, and U16 levels, has been a vital member of the team, appearing in 80 games across all competitions.
Under Nuno Espirito Santo, he was the team’s talisman as they just managed to stave off relegation this season.
His response to being left off the squad seemed different from Marcus Rashford’s, who wasn’t on the list that was released on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m.
After revealing his starting lineup, Southgate gave a “simple” explanation for the Manchester United forward’s exclusion, saying, “With Marcus, I just feel that players in that area of the pitch have had better seasons, it’s as simple as that.”
Next, Rashford took to social media on his own, posting on Instagram, “Wishing Gareth and the boys all the best for the up and coming tournament.”
