Newcastle United defeats Nottingham Forest on penalties, and Alan Shearer gives his immediate assessment.

There was a sense of relief from Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer as the Magpies advanced to the next round of the Carabao Cup.

After 90 minutes of a 1-1 draw between the two Premier League teams, Eddie Howe’s team had to win on penalties.

Joe Willock had given Newcastle United the lead in the opening minute. Although it was a lightning-fast start, the Magpies lost ground as a result.

After Jota Silva equalised in the second half, they were pushed back.

On the evening that Sandro Tonali made his first appearance in ten months, Newcastle rallied late on but failed to find a winner within ninety minutes. Even though Kevin Nolan saw Tonali breathing heavily within the first fifteen minutes of his return, the 24-year-old performed incredibly well!

Newcastle won 4-3 on penalties after the game went to overtime. After losing to Manchester United in the 2023 Carabao Cup final, Sean Longstaff scored the game’s winning goal for the Magpies, who are hoping to make a trip back to Wembley.
