Newcastle United forward suffers second injury and is ruled out of Fulham match; While £20 million star is also sidelined until October
Alexander Isak, who was first ruled out for Saturday’s trip to Fulham due to an eye problem, has now been diagnosed with another problem.
Craig Hope of The Mail writes that the Swedish international is doubtful for this weekend’s encounter at Craven Cottage due to a toe injury, while Callum Wilson (back) will not return until October after recovering from his most recent knock.
Isak was pulled off at halftime in last Sunday’s 2-1 victory over Wolves owing to swelling around his eye. Hope says that this problem has been resolved, but a toe injury has left Eddie Howe concerned about his availability once again.
There is some hope, however, as the narrative indicates that we will make a ‘late call’ on the striker, crossing our fingers that he will be able to manage the agony.
Isak scored four goals in his previous four games for club and country and would be a major loss, not just because of his undeniable talent in front of goal, but also because back-up striker Callum Wilson is unavailable.
Will Osula is yet to play this season because he is still working on his fitness and game, similar to Lewis Hall last season, thus Anthony Gordon might fill in as a false 9 if Isak fails a late fitness test.
