Newcastle United are planning a surprise late move for Gibbs-White according to sources.

Newcastle United are keeping a close eye on Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White for a January transfer, according to Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track Podcast, transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that if the Magpies increase their budget this month, including the expected sale of Miguel Almiron, they may make a move for the 23-year-old.
It is expected that Forest will be hesitant to sell the versatile attacker, meaning Eddie Howe’s side will have to pay a high price to bring him to St James’ Park.

According to Football Insider (24 January), the club is still in advanced talks with Saudi Pro League side Al-Shabab about a fee for Almiron, with a deal believed to be “very close”.

Kieran Trippier was interested in joining Bayern Munich after they submitted three offers, but the Bundesliga club has confirmed they are no longer interested in him.

Gibbs-White has impressed in the Premier League since his reported £35 million transfer to the City Ground in the summer of 2022.
He has three goals and three assists in 22 appearances for a Forest side that is slipping into relegation trouble and faces a possible points deduction after being charged with violating Profitability and Sustainability Rules.

The Magpies are aware of their FFP obligations, which means they will have to sell players before bringing in new signings.
Well-placed sources told Football Insider (23 January) that they would demand a £20 million fee to sell Atletico Madrid and AC Milan target Callum Wilson.

Newcastle are 10th in the Premier League after four consecutive defeats, the most recent coming against Manchester City on Saturday, January 13.

They will next travel to west London to face Fulham in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Saturday (January 27).
