“No angels either,” John Hartson says as he calls for fairness in the midst of the Green Brigade debate.

In the midst of Celtic’s ongoing feud with the Green Brigade, former Hoops hero John Hartson has publicly stated that he hopes all supporters across the country are held accountable for their actions. It comes after the Celtic PLC AGM revealed that the recurring issues between the heirarchy and the ultras group are not going away anytime soon.

While the supporters group and many other Celtic fans believe that the current ban is motivated by solidarity with the people of Palestine, club officials have refuted this claim, claiming that it is motivated by general anti-social behaviour and safety concerns. The tit-for-tat has become an unwelcome sideshow that has divided fans and detracted from the football on the pitch.

Big Bad John has now spoken out on the matter, urging the authorities to apply the same standards and levels of scrutiny to all Scottish clubs, not just the Green Brigade.

“It looks in a way that they’re singling Celtic and the Green Brigade out.,” the Parkhead legend said on The Go Radio Football Show. Yes, they’ve got their faults. Yes, they’ve cost Celtic a lot of money over the years in fines. But also, you have to look at other clubs. And I hope they are, because all the clubs will have good eggs and bad eggs in terms of what they sing and act.”

The Welshman played for the Bhoys under Martin O’Neill and Gordon Strachan in the early 2000s and has heard his fair share of abuse from the terraces. “I played in Scotland for five years, and I’ve seen it in away games,” he added. Some of the fans and what they say and chant. So I just hope that Celtic are not the only club being penalised or being looked at and it’s looked at across the board because other clubs’ fans are no angels either.”

In other news. With a Motherwell test on the horizon, Celtic’s key duo will not return to training until Friday.
