Nottingham Forest
Nottingham Forest can count themselves unlucky once again as the match officials stole the show during yesterday’s defeat to Fulham.
Theo Walcott, Gary Lineker, and Micah Richards talk about Taiwo Awoniyi’s penalty appeal.
Joachim Anderson attempted to kick the ball during a first-half incident, but it appeared like he caught Awoniyi instead.
Play continued to leave the score goalless at halftime because neither the referee nor the VAR showed an excessive amount of interest.
The three experts addressed the situation on Match of the Day, and it may not come as a surprise to Forest supporters to learn that they thought the referees got everything exactly right.
The conversation went as follows:
Richards: “That’s not a penalty.”
Lineker: “You know what, though, in Europe, they give that forever.”
Richards: “It’s not enough to give that.”
Lineker: “I agree that it shouldn’t be, but the state of things nowadays.”
Richards: “Andersen there on Awoniyi, I don’t think that’s a penalty.”
Theo Walcott: “I would be disappointed if they were giving these penalties in the Premier League. That’s for sure.”
