Now, Nottingham Forest wants to sign a “energetic” new talent before Manchester United.

Nottingham Forest reportedly wants to beat Manchester United in the Premier League race to sign a future star this summer, despite concerns about profit and sustainability.

News about transfers involving Nottingham Forest
Last season, those at City Ground suffered the consequences of playing in the top division after losing points for breaking profit and sustainability regulations. Forest is reportedly one of the teams that must sell players before the end of June in order to prevent a repeat. John Percy of The Telegraph claims that in order to meet the requirements, they could have to raise up to £20 million.

That being said, Morgan Gibbs-White and other players have already been connected to Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United in a deal that would immediately resolve Forest’s PSR issue. Any names that do go the other way, however, might have to be acquisitions at a discount as opposed to the extravagant spending we’ve witnessed at the City Ground in recent years. And there might be a future star there.

After considering a move since January, Nottingham Forest now wish to sign Archie Stevens from Rangers for Nuno Espirito Santo, according to Football Transfers. They are not the only team interested in signing the 18-year-old; West Ham United, Manchester United, and Wolverhampton Wanderers, three rivals from the Midlands, are also considering moves to sign the winger this summer.

One for the future, Stevens might find it difficult to decline the opportunity to play football in England again just two years after switching from Rangers to AFC Wimbledon. Needing cheap acquisitions, Forest will try to outbid their competitors for the young player’s signature by offering a senior football pathway.

Stevens is “energetic” and a future star.
It will be more crucial than ever for Forest to expand their academy in order to create a more sustainable model. Some, like Stevens, have demonstrated elsewhere that they have a promising future ahead of them. Stevens made his first-team debut with the Rangers at the age of sixteen.

Michael Hamilton, the club’s former academy manager at Wimbeldon, predicted this rise a few years ago, saying on the official website: “Archie joined us just over two seasons ago and has made massive strides in his development as a player, but also as a person.” He is a dynamic midfielder with versatility who can play a variety of positions and is well-known for his ability to score goals and create.”

Stevens has a big choice to make this summer after playing for Rangers in the academy the previous season. The emphasis this summer will be on developing talent, if Philippe Clement’s acquisitions thus far are any indication. However, in the upcoming months, the allure of playing English football might be too great to resist for the Rangers jewel. And Forest will be looking to gain from this.
