Latest Nottingham Forest transfer news as Nuno Espirito Santo’s Reds prepare for their Premier League clash with Brentford.

Nottingham Forest’s head coach, Nuno Espirito Santo, has described the January transfer window as “difficult”.

The Reds’ focus this month was always going to be on outgoings, as Nuno has stated that he prefers to work with a smaller squad. However, the Portuguese intend to make a few key additions.

Forest has less than two weeks remaining to complete their business. However, the next fortnight is unlikely to see a major cash injection because the club wants to show that they are taking their Premier League charge for violating Profitability and Sustainability regulations seriously.

“It’s very difficult. You have to realise this is a difficult window to operate in because normally the targets you really want are not available,” Nuno said.

“This happens at all the clubs; the players who are available are the players who are not in a happy moment where they are. It happens to us also, the speculation of players in our squad going out because they are not happy here or some circumstances happen.

“We have to be really careful. What you want is sometimes not what you get.

“We have to balance the squad due to the absences and the numbers in the squad. This is the work we are doing.”

Nuno’s selection options remain limited as he prepares to return to Premier League action at Brentford on Saturday. Morgan Gibbs-White recently joined an injury list that includes Anthony Elanga, Divock Origi, Taiwo Awoniyi, and Felipe. The Reds are also missing Moussa Niakhate, Cheikhou Kouyate, Ola Aina, Willy Boly, Serge Aurier, and Ibrahim Sangare, who are on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations.
