As Nottingham Forest looks to build on an encouraging start to the season, head coach Nuno Espirito Santo anticipates the club will make some late moves in the transfer market.
So far this summer, the Reds have signed nine players, though two of them will play on loan at Olympiacos. They also demonstrated their depth by performing well in the Carabao Cup match against Newcastle United.
During the second round match at the City Ground, Nuno made ten changes to his starting lineup. Jota Silva scored on his first start, while summer additions Carlos Miguel, Alex Moreno, Eric da Silva Moreira, and Ramon Sosa made their debuts.
It ended 1-1 at halftime, with all of the newcomers making an impression, before Forest lost 4-3 on penalties. But even though Nuno’s selection choices have provided some food for thought, he believes that more transactions must be completed by Friday at 11 p.m.
We will stay vigilant until the window closes. The Portuguese said, “Yes, if it’s feasible, I believe we still need a few options.
It’s insane how many players we’ve been connected to. Numerous of them are untrue. However, I believe we need options. We are working and we have two days left. We’re hoping to bring (signings in).
Numerous players made their debuts tonight. It was a good thing.
“We have consistently stated that the reason we bring in players is because we think they can contribute. They demonstrated today that they have been putting in a lot of effort from the start.
Although it isn’t always possible, we wish we could give them more opportunities than we have. However, it’s good. These headaches are quite enjoyable.
Before the transfer window closes, the Reds want to add a striker to give Chris Wood and Taiwo Awoniyi some competition and cover. The latter continued to sharpen his match-day technique by playing 90 minutes against the Magpies, but his evening was marred by his failure to convert the final spot-kick attempt for the hosts in the shootout.
He performed admirably for ninety minutes. Although it was evident in the end that he was running low on energy, Nuno said he worked extremely hard all the way through. He had three or four good opportunities to finish. Taiwo has the talent, so we want to give him this chance to improve his fitness levels.
“For all of us, but especially for the player who was in that circumstance, you cannot overlook the (penalty) moment. However, we are here to support him, and since we leave again on Saturday, we don’t have much time to grieve.
