Lewis Warrington has played only four times for the Pilgrims this season and just twice in the Championship
On-loan Lewis Warrington, a midfielder for Plymouth Argyle, has returned to his parent club Everton to have a knee injury assessed. It is unknown whether the 21-year-old will need surgery, but Argyle director of football Neil Dewsnip has stated that Warrington ‘could be out for quite a while’.
Warrington joined Argyle from Everton late in pre-season and has made just four appearances for the Pilgrims this season, with only two of those coming in the Championship.
“He’s gone back to Everton for rehab, could be out for a while, I’m afraid,” Dewsnip said. He has a knee problem, so they’re trying to figure out whether he needs surgery or not.”
Warrington was signed by former Argyle manager Steven Schumacher to compete with Jordan Houghton for the central midfield holding role in his team. However, the form of Houghton has been so good and consistent that Warrington has hardly had a look in. His last match was when he started the 4-1 defeat away to Bristol City on September 19.
When asked if Warrington’s time at Argyle had come to an end, Dewsnip said, “I think that’s too soon to say simply because we don’t know the nature of the injury, but I’m sure that will be a discussion when we find out what the facts are.”
If Warrington does not return to Argyle, they will have two loan spots available to strengthen their squad in the January transfer window, rather than one as it is now.
