Paulo Bernardo: Celtic Must Play Every Game Like a Final in the Champions League
Paulo Bernardo has commended Celtic’s teamwork and tenacity in their goalless draw with Atalanta, which was a powerful comeback after the difficult 7-1 defeat to Borussia Dortmund.
After the Champions League match in Bergamo, Bernardo talked about how Celtic’s teamwork and flexibility helped them bounce back from the Dortmund loss and show their development on the European scene.
Bernardo characterized the Dortmund defeat as a vital educational experience that revealed the challenges and realities of playing in the Champions League.
“The game that we played against Dortmund, we had a lot to learn,” he told STV.
“I believe we did it, and the feedback was excellent. That was demonstrated by our unity on the field, and we must continue to play as a team in every match.
“It was crucial to open our eyes to the Champions League’s realities versus Dortmund.
Bernardo thinks that as Celtic advance in their Champions League campaign, it will be essential to approach every game with a “final” mentality.
“We had to react. We had a very difficult game against Dortmund. However, we must always play in the middle of the week. For these games, we must be ready, and I believe we performed admirably.
“We must concentrate on that and treat every game as though it were our last. We must demonstrate our mindset, just as we did in this game.
“A point-off is usually beneficial. We must now start concentrating on the next one.
Celtic’s next Champions League opponent is RB Leipzig, who will go to Glasgow in search of their first league point.
Liverpool, Juventus, and Atletico Madrid have all defeated the team, and they have now dropped three straight games.
Additionally, they will be without Xavi Simons, their star player, who will be out for the remainder of 2024.
