Lille defender Rafael Fernandes has landed in Scotland as he nears a potential loan move to Rangers, according to a report from Sky Sports.

On 17 January at 7:25 pm, the news outlet revealed that the Gers are finalizing a deal to bring the 22-year-old to Ibrox. Philippe Clement, Rangers’ manager, is reportedly eager to bolster his defensive options, especially in light of the club’s injury challenges.

Rangers move swiftly to secure Rafael Fernandes

The fact that Fernandes has already arrived in Scotland indicates that negotiations have progressed quickly. If discussions were still in the early stages, it is unlikely he would have traveled this far.

For Lille, the decision to loan Fernandes appears logical. Despite their £2 million investment to bring him to the club, the young defender has yet to make his senior debut in Ligue 1. A loan spell at Rangers offers him the opportunity to gain valuable experience while potentially making a significant impact for the Scottish side.

Although Fernandes may not be a familiar name for most fans, similar concerns were raised about Hamza Igamane and Neraysho Kasanwirjo. Both players have since proven themselves to be valuable additions, suggesting that Rangers’ scouting team has thoroughly evaluated Fernandes before pursuing the deal.
