Premier League clubs face anxious points deduction wait as Nottingham Forest stance revealed

All 20 Premier League clubs have until the close of business on New Year’s Eve to submit their 2023-24 financial accounts with Chelsea among the clubs sweating

By the end of business on New Year’s Eve, Premier League clubs must submit their most recent financial statements. Four clubs are eagerly awaiting word on whether they have complied with the profit and sustainability regulations.

Everton and Leicester, who are fighting relegation, Chelsea and Nottingham Forest, who are both vying for Champions League slots, might all lose points if it is discovered that their losses exceeded the league’s maximum allowed loss of £105 million.
The league’s accounting specialists will start examining the 2023–24 accounts after all 20 clubs submit them by tomorrow at the latest. Other clubs are worried about possible additional penalties after Everton and Forest were docked points last season.

Chelsea’s lack of European football has left a large hole in their coffers, even if they are permitted to include the £76 million sale of two hotels at Stamford Bridge in their books.

In order to balance their books, Everton sold a number of players, including Ben Godfrey for £10 million. However, the club’s new owners, The Friedkin Group, are keeping a careful eye on how the deals made by their predecessors may affect the team’s future.

After losing to Forest at home on Sunday afternoon, Sean Dyche’s club is now three points above the relegation zone in 16th position.

Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest seem fairly optimistic about meeting the financial threshold due to their successful transfers, with Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad currently sitting second in the league table ahead of Monday night’s matches. Leicester City, on the other hand, are more worried, reports the Mirror.

The Foxes reported a loss of £124m for the season they were relegated, and their promotion from the Championship last year is expected to have been expensive as well. They managed to win a legal fight over the summer to avoid starting this season with a penalty, as they were not under the Premier League’s jurisdiction last season.
