Premier League forced to release VAR statement after Nottingham Forest goal disallowed
The Premier League has explained why Nikola Milenkovic’s goal against Southampton was disallowed. In the second half, Milenkovic believed he had given Forest a 4-1 lead with a header from a free kick from Anthony Elanga, but referee Anthony Taylor gave the goal, but VAR sent him to his pitchside monitor before overturning his initial ruling.
Premier League Match Centre posted a statement on social media platform X, saying: “The referee’s call of goal was checked by VAR, who deemed that Wood interfered with play after coming from an offside position. After an on-field review, the referee overturned the original decision and the goal was disallowed.”
The Reds still led 3-1 after Milenkovic’s effort was chalked off, thanks to first half goals from Elliot Anderson, Callum Hudson-Odoi and top scorer Chris Wood.
