“Premier League Ready?” | Steidten is concerned about the striker.
David’s goal-scoring abilities are undeniable. Over the previous two seasons, the Canadian has scored an incredible 43 goals in Ligue 1, including 19 goals and four assists in the recently finished 2023/24 season.
However, Tim Steidten has worries about David’s ability to adjust to the Premier League’s demands.
Jhon Duran of Aston Villa appears to be the preferred prospect, potentially pushing David to second place. However, at £40 million, he is quite expensive.
While Steidten has the authority to lead the club’s transfer targets, having already signed Luis Guilherme, Max Kilman, and Wes Foderingham, there are concerns about David’s candidacy being dismissed immediately.
David’s precision finishing has earned him plaudits from his Canadian teammate Stephen Eustaquio, who describes him as a ‘cold man’ in front of the net. This reputation is supported by his excellent score of 84 goals in 183 appearances for Lille, which is further reinforced by his 28 goals on the international arena for Canada in 54 games.
While Duran has promising potential at Aston Villa, where he is currently an understudy to Ollie Watkins, David appears to be a more astute acquisition, especially given that he is in the final year of his contract with Lille, which could mean a lower transfer fee for the Hammers.
West Ham United need to improve their attacking alternatives due to Michail Antonio’s continuous injury issues. Tammy Abraham of AS Roma and Sevilla’s Youssef En-Nesyri have both been linked with a move to the London Stadium.
The following weeks will be exciting for West Ham fans as they await word on the club’s chosen striker to lead their assault. Will the Hammers favor David’s established goal scoring record, or will Duran’s potential influence their decision?
