Rangers are said to be ‘at the forefront of the race’ to sign £35 million striker Fabio Silva on loan from Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers during the January transfer window. Philippe Clement has already stated that he wants Rangers to sign a new striker as soon as possible. And the sight of Kemar Roofe limping off after only 16 minutes of Wednesday’s 2-0 win over St Johnstone – the experienced forward joining Danilo in the treatment room – will not have softened that stance.

The Glasgow giants have already been linked with Bojan Miovski, but Aberdeen have stated their refusal to sell. Meanwhile, Kevin van Veen appears eager to make the most of his time in Groningen.

However, Rangers may not face as many roadblocks in their pursuit of Fabio Silva.

Wolves are likely to be open to letting the former FC Porto star go. Silva, who has played only 17 minutes of Premier League football since mid-September, may be looking for a fresh start as well.

Rangers, according to O Jogo, are first in line for the 21-year-old marksman. Celtic are also interested, and both clubs would be reliant on Wolves accepting short-term loan bids.

Of course, this cannot be ruled out. An impressive spell north of the border at Ibrox or Parkhead could do wonders for Silva’s reputation, giving Wolves a much better chance of recouping a large portion of their ill-advised £35 million investment.
