Rangers could be in for bumper Ligue 1 payday two years on from collapse of £10m transfer

This summer, the talk of the Ibrox steamie is the Rangers player trading model.

As the highly anticipated rebuild by Philippe Clement and company gets underway, the pressure is mounting due to the Gers’ poor trading in the transfer market.
Over the past 24 months, Rangers have seen a number of important players leave for nothing: Borna Barisic, John Lundstram, Kemar Roofe, Ryan Kent, Filip Helander, and Alfredo Morelos all left without giving the team a single penny.

However, one player who made Rangers pay almost a hundred times as much for him may be heading to Ligue 1 this summer.

Additionally, Rangers may soon receive a sizable sum of money, nearly two years after a £10 million transfer agreement that would have brought him to France fell through.
Deal for Kamara in Ligue 1 is “explored”

Glen Kamara, a former Rangers midfielder, has always seemed to be destined for the major leagues.

For a while, Kamara’s career with the Rangers seemed unstoppable as he established himself as a vital member of Steven Gerrard’s squad.
But something changed for Kamara in Glasgow after the Scouser left, along with close friends Joe Aribo and Calvin Bassey.

Rangers made 100 times the amount of money they paid Dundee to bring the midfield player to Ibrox when he was eventually sold to Leeds United for £5 million last summer.

Rangers also added a promotion clause to the player’s contract, which Leeds just missed out on this season. It’s also thought that the deal includes a sell-on clause.
And now that there are rumours that Glen Kamara is being pursued by a top Ligue 1 team, the Ibrox team may be set to earn even more money.

Former Rangers player sought in France
Glen Kamara may be on the move once more this summer following an outstanding debut campaign with Leeds United in the English Championship.

After the Elland Road team just missed out on promotion, Stade Rennais is reportedly interested in the 28-year-old midfield player, according to L’Equipe in France.

Although the exact amount Rennes would have to pay for Kamara is unknown, the French team’s transfer funds have increased as a result of several high-profile sales this summer.

The Ligue 1 team is reportedly “exploring” a deal for the Finnish international, who played in 40 Championship games the previous campaign.

Should a deal materialise, Rangers would receive a portion of the transfer fee, which could provide a much-needed financial boost to the team.

It’s interesting to note that Glen Kamara has previously been connected to a move to France.

A £10 million late-window deal to move Kamara to OGC Nice back in 2022 fell through in the last stretch.
