Rangers Fans Expected to Face Lifetime Bans as UEFA Controversy Escalates

Published

on

Rangers are set to hand out lifetime bans to supporters involved in displaying a controversial banner during their Europa League clash against Fenerbahce. The club is taking swift action after UEFA charged them over the incident, which was deemed “racist and/or discriminatory.”

The consequences for Rangers have already been significant, with UEFA imposing a £25,000 fine for the banner, along with additional penalties for blocking passageways and throwing objects. More critically, the Copland Stand at Ibrox will face a one-game closure if there is a repeat offence in a European match within the next two years.

Harsh Punishments Spark Debate

Finance expert Stefan Borson has described the lifetime bans as “harsh,” suggesting that clubs have broad authority over who they can refuse entry to.

“Even in cases where fans haven’t been found guilty by the police, clubs have still taken action,” Borson told Football Insider. “Once banned, the only option is an internal appeal, and even that offers little hope.”

He also questioned UEFA’s priorities, pointing out inconsistencies in how the governing body handles disciplinary issues. “It’s seen as a serious offence by UEFA, but they’ve been lenient on other matters like racism. Their approach seems inconsistent.”

Rangers Eye Marco Rose as Next Manager

Meanwhile, Rangers are reportedly exploring a bold move to bring in RB Leipzig boss Marco Rose as their next permanent manager. With Rose under pressure in Germany and Rangers’ potential new owners, 49ers Enterprises, having strong ties to Red Bull, a move could be on the cards.
