Rangers make new announcement about John Souttar.
John Souttar has been a key figure for Rangers this season despite ongoing injury struggles, and his latest call-up to the Scotland squad signals a major boost for both club and country.

The defender has made only 16 Scottish Premiership appearances this season, with injuries limiting his impact. However, he made a crucial return to the starting lineup in the 3-1 Europa League victory over Fenerbahce last week, playing the full 90 minutes in Istanbul.
Rangers Confirm Souttar’s Scotland Call-Up
Despite his limited game time, Rangers confirmed via X on March 11 that Souttar has been included in Scotland’s squad for their upcoming international fixture against Greece.
His selection comes at a pivotal moment, with Rangers preparing for a massive week—the second leg against Fenerbahce on Thursday before a season-defining Old Firm derby against Celtic on Sunday.
With Barry Ferguson now at the helm, Souttar’s fitness could determine whether he starts both matches as Rangers chase European progression and look to delay Celtic’s title party.
Souttar’s Injury-Plagued Rangers Career

Since joining Rangers, injuries have severely disrupted Souttar’s ability to maintain a consistent run in the team.
🔹 2022-23 – 7 appearances
🔹 2023-24 – 25 appearances
🔹 2024-25 – 16 appearances (so far)
Although his minutes have been limited, when fit, he remains one of Rangers’ most reliable defenders—evidenced by his strong showing in Istanbul last week.
Souttar Needs More Minutes – But Rangers Must Be Cautious
While international duty could be an opportunity for Souttar to build match fitness, it also presents a risk. Rangers will not want him picking up another injury, especially with the season reaching its crucial stage.
However, his selection for Scotland highlights that Rangers still have plenty of talent in their squad—they just need to deliver when it matters most.
With Barry Ferguson’s Rangers showing signs of renewed energy, Souttar could play a vital role in ensuring they finish the season strongly, both domestically and in Europe.
