Rangers want to sign teen forward training with Arsenal first team in cut-price deal – report

Rangers are interested in signing England U17 forward Mason Cotcher on a cut-price deal after he left Sunderland, according to Mike McGrath.

The Daily Telegraph reporter revealed on Friday morning (24 November) via Twitter that the young striker has been training with Arsenal’s senior team since leaving his boyhood club in the North East of England.

Rangers have been eagerly watching from a distance as they look to target the 17-year-old, with a cross-border transfer to Scotland meaning a much lower compensation fee would be required.

An exciting prospect

Having recently begun training with the Gunners at U18 level, the youngster has been given a shot in two U18 Premier League matches, scoring and assisting against Crystal Palace.

It appears that Mikel Arteta has been impressed with the former Sunderland player, training him along with the rest of the first team at The Arsenal Training Centre.

It could be an incredible opportunity for, not only the player but also for Rangers to claim the signature of one of the hottest talents at his age.

While with the Black Cats, Cotcher made 27 appearances for their U18 side, registering nine goals and one assist, according to Transfermarkt.

Working under Philippe Clement, and learning from experienced heads such as James Tavernier, John Lundstram, Tom Lawrence and Kemar Roofe, Cotcher’s development would only improve, along with youngster Ross McCausland.

There is no doubt that the youngster will be a project for the future. It would be an investment in an intriguing talent that needs nourishing and developing before any chance at first-team minutes.
