Celtic face RB Leipzig on Tuesday night at Celtic Park, with the Germans hoping to improve their poor European form this season.

Leipzig is currently 31st in the Champions League table, having lost all of their games so far this season.

So far, Celtic has had a mixed bag of results, with a 5-1 victory over Slovan Bratislava and a 7-1 defeat to Borussia Dortmund in Germany.

However, after holding Atalanta to a 0-0 draw away from home last time out, Celtic may be quietly confident heading into Tuesday night.

RB Leipzig and Celtic have faced off on the European stage four times in the last six years. The Germans have beaten their Glasgow counterparts three times, while Celtic have only won once.

Who will win this one remains to be seen, but RB Leipzig won’t be feeling too confident after a disastrous weekend.

Castello Lukeba and Xavi Simons have been ruled out for RB Leipzig’s match against Celtic

After facing Borussia Dortmund this weekend, the German side is expected to be without Castello Lukeba, who sustained an injury during the game.

In his post-match interview, Leipzig manager Marco Rose stated: “He [Lukeba] picked up a thigh injury in training and we don’t want to take any risks or else we are talking about five or six weeks out.

“I therefore don’t think it’s very likely that he will play against Celtic.”

Lukeba is one of Europe’s most highly rated defenders, with Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Liverpool all interested in him, so will be a miss for Leipzig.

Alongside this, Dutch prodigy wonderkid Xavi Simons has been out for some time, but has recently undergone surgery, ruling him out of the Celtic game until at least 2025, according to The Athletic.

RB Leipzig lost for the first time in the Bundesliga this weekend.

The third sucker punch came this weekend in the form of their first Bundesliga loss, 2-1 to Dortmund.

The defeat means RB can no longer go undefeated in the German first division, and they are now three points behind first-place Bayern Munich.

Do Celtic still have a shot at the Champions League this season?

Celtic haven’t advanced to the Champions League knockout rounds since losing 5-0 on aggregate to Juventus in 2013.

Celtic appear to be more optimistic about the competition’s new format, hoping that the club may at least reach the preliminary play-off round, with both Club Brugge and Young Boys being winnable home matches that are yet to come.

A win on Tuesday, on the other hand, would put Celtic in a fantastic position for progression while also putting RB Leipzig in a very worrying situation in terms of their Champions League hopes.
