Recent Celtic transfer updates on Mathias Kvistgaarden, Yuki Kobayashi, and Mikey Johnston.
There are fears that the Hoops may not make any further signings.
Celtic’s transfer activity has been relatively quiet, with Brendan Rodgers even hinting that there may be no more incomings.
The Hoops have signed winger Nicolas Kuhn from Rapid Vienna this month, despite the manager’s insistence that he needed four quality players to bolster his squad, with several on international duty at the Asian Cup. With less than a week to go, the Northern Irishman stated yesterday that he would be content to continue working with the players he currently has at his disposal.
Stephen McGinn is now questioning why he has backtracked in such a manner. He went on to say: “If Brendan Rodgers had said what he’d said in this week’s interview back in November, which was ‘we’ll only add in January if the quality is available’.”The club has previously used that queue. Historically, poor performance and results were explained by adding quality to the market. That was almost the message. Even the win at St Johnstone and the draw at home to Motherwell conveyed a message. He was asked about quality because it happened so frequently, but the message was ‘just be patient, we’ll improve’.
“Suddenly, you get to January, and the manager’s message has changed. That’s when the fans become frustrated, saying, “You told us two months ago that we needed to add quality or else the results [would suffer].” If they repeat those results, they risk losing the league.
“So, what has changed?” Has the manager been told he could add quality and then told he can’t? What has changed? That’s why Celtic fans are baffled. They’re watching the rest of the city’s teams add players, and they’re now focusing on their own deficiencies in terms of who will play left back. Alexandro Bernabei has proven he cannot be Celtic’s left-back, and Liam Scales is having a fantastic season at centre-back; will he be asked to cover?
“What if Oh and Maeda advance to the Asian Cup final while Kyogo is suspended or injured? They are frustrated because the club does not have a recognised first-team striker.
Mathias Kvistgaarden, a Danish striker, was among those linked with the Hoops this month. After a bid of more than £4 million was rejected, interest continued throughout the summer.
Brondby were adamant that they would not sell this month, but the 21-year-old was left out of their squad for the victory over FC Fredericia, which has left their fans concerned.
It is possible that Celtic will sell before the end of the transfer window, and there is interest in Yuki Kobayashi. Real Salt Lake and FC Dallas are reportedly interested in making a loan deal.
There is also interest in Mikey Johnston, Gustaf Lagerbielke, and Marco Tilio.
