Report: Sunderland star gaining interest from Premier League giants

Sunderland midfielder Jobe Bellingham has attracted interest from Premier League title chasers Tottenham Hotspur.

According to Football Insider, Spurs have been watching Bellingham since January when he was at former club Birmingham City, and have been regularly sending scouts to watch him throughout this season.

It is yet to be seen whether they would make a move for him in the upcoming January transfer window.

Bellingham has started in every single one of Sunderland’s 16 games in the Championship so far this season, scoring three times and assisting once from centre midfield.

He made the move to the Stadium of Light in the summer from Birmingham for £3 million, and has excelled so far this season.

With starting every game though, manager Tony Mowbray may look to give Bellingham a rest in order to not risk injury.

Should Bellingham be given a rest?

Mowbray had made it very clear that Jobe Bellingham was in need of a rest earlier this month, however he has started both games since.

With Sunderland’s next game against Plymouth Argyle nearly two weeks after their last, you would have hoped that the 18-year-old did not get injured in the break

But he was withdrawn from England’s under-19 squad late last week, but no reason was given by the national team as to why he was removed. You would hope this is not because of an injury.

While Jobe really impressed in the Black Cats’ last game against Birmingham, it will be baffling if he is picked from the start against Plymouth on Saturday..

Sunderland have ready made replacements in Alex Pritchard and Bradley Dack on the pitch, so Mowbray needs to follow up with what he has already said and give him a good rest, especially if he may have picked up a minor injury before international duty.
