Reported Keeper Target Speaks Out Following Celtic Links.
Joe Hart’s impending retirement and the end of his contract this summer have put Celtic in a position where finding a new custodian is critical for the coming season.
Speculation has been rife about his potential successor, with Liverpool and Real Madrid backups among those linked with the Celtic gloves.
Last month, the club reportedly tracked Trabzonspor’s Ugurcan Çakır. He was rumoured to be available for around £7.5 million.
The 27-year-old Turkish international, who has won a title, a Turkish Cup, and two Turkish Super Cups in 235 appearances for Trabzonspor, appears to possess the qualities Celtic seeks in Hart’s replacement.
Çakır has expressed his admiration for his current team, referring to himself as a fan, after rising through the ranks.
He stated: [HITC].
“I have been a Trabzonspor fan since my childhood, my father instilled this love in us. After spending a certain period of time in the youth structure, I was promoted to the A Team.
“I lifted 4 trophies. For me, it’s an incredible feeling to win a trophy at the club I am a fan of. I’ve always been proud of that. It’s a great and honourable feeling to be the captain of this team.
“Playing for Trabzonspor was already my dream as a child. It gives great pride to me, my family and my loved ones.”
These are not the words of someone who intends to leave the club within the next few months. However, football is a funny game, and things change quickly.
