RETURN OF THE BAD BHOY
BAD Bhoy Boli Bolingoli has been snapped up by Standard Liege – just a few days after being freed by KV Mechelen.
On Monday, the 29th birthday of the former Celtic left-back, the Belgian team informed him that his contract would not be renewed!
Bolingoli, who completed his disastrous £3 million move from Rapid Vienna to the Hoops in July 2019, didn’t have to wait long to find a new team as Liege made an offer for him to sign a two-year contract.
Naturally, the defender was part of the contentious August 2020 incident when he defied stringent Government Covid regulations to take a secret vacation to Spain with his girlfriend.
After making a brief appearance in the 1-1 draw against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park, the second Premiership match of the club’s disastrous run for a historic tenth consecutive title, the bumbling Belgian’s covert trip to the sun was revealed.
Bolingoli was sent to Turkey for a season-long loan with Istanbul Basaksehir and never returned to the pitch for Neil Lennon.
After his return to Parkhead in June 2021, he played for Ange Postecoglou in two first-team games: a 2-0 victory at Motherwell the following month and a 1-0 loss at Livingston in September.
After agreeing to a short-term loan with Russian team Ufa, which was postponed when the nation invaded Ukraine in January 2022, the player didn’t play again.
In the end, Bolingoli signed a two-year contract to leave the Hoops for KV Mechelen that summer.
He returned to Standard Liege after his contract ran out.
Bolingoli played just 31 games for Celtic despite once being considered as Kieran Tierney’s perfect replacement.
