Richard Gordon: Mindset of Aberdeen players will be key if they are to defy the odds at Celtic Park
The ease with which Celtic has won most of its games and the healthy goal differential they possess demonstrate that they have played the superior football in the first few months and have maintained a consistent level of consistency.
However, such is to be expected considering the clubs’ individual budgets and the starting points.
Rodgers only needed to make minor adjustments to his team, but he made significant investments in Adam Idah, Auston Trusty, and Arne Engels in particular. In addition to generous salary packages, he paid transfer fees of over £30 million.
Of huge importance today will be the mindset of the Dons players.
They will have to stand in front of 60,000 boisterous supporters and think they can stop the commotion and Celtic’s offensive intentions.
Rodgers won’t change his strategy. Celtic will play at a fast pace right away, putting Aberdeen in their faces as they try to build their fast passing game and generate opportunities.
The Dons will have to weather a storm if that occurs. Make it through the first twenty minutes, hold them at bay, and establish a presence in the game. Better yet, get ahead of the game.
