‘Ridiculous’: Lawyer hits out at the Premier League over Nottingham Forest decision
Nick De Marco slams Premier League call on Nottingham Forest.
Responding to a post by football finance expert Kieran Maguire that showed Forest are one of the best sides in the league based on the transfer fee paid per point earned, Nick De Marco KC criticised the Premier League’s treatment of Forest.
He said the data “makes the PL’s [Premier League] prosecution of them [Forest] look even more ridiculous.”
Di Marco’s remarks simply help to emphasize how well the Forest owner has done in terms of transfer transactions to try and avoid such sanctions, and Evangelos Marinakis was incensed at the Premier League for their choice to penalize Forest.
Marinakis has demonstrated the capacity to make astute acquisitions in the current season’s transfer market, regardless of opinions over the PSR breach.
Nottingham Forest have impressed in the transfer market.
The table that De Marco was replying to shows that Forest have earned a point per £4.7m spent, making them the second most efficient team in the Premier League in that metric.
When considering the summer moves, it is evident how the Forest owner has accomplished this, as the team only spent £12 million to get Nikola Milenkovic, who has emerged as one of the team’s most notable players.
Even a more costly transfer, such as Elliot Anderson joining Forest, resulted in goalie Odysseas Vlachodimos leaving, allowing Forest to bolster their team without risking another violation of Premier League regulations.
The club has obviously improved from the standpoint of prudent transfer business, regardless of whether De Marco is correct to contest the Premier League’s judgment on Forest.
