Rodgers clarifies the mystery of the ‘disappearing’ midfielder

Brendan Rodgers has shed some light on the status of Odin Thiago Holm.

Time for Thiago Odin Holm – remember him – to shine for Celtic

Signed in the summer of 2023, the young Norwegian was in the Starting XI at the start of last season but appeared to fall behind Daniel Kelly by the turn of the year.

Holm came off the bench in three games in August, but the arrival of Luke McCowan increased competition for midfield positions, with the former Valerenga player struggling to make the matchday squad and being left out of the 25 named for Champions League duty.

Last month’s friendly against Sligo Rovers appeared to be an opportunity, but Holm did not participate, adding to the intrigue when he missed the first team photo-call.

When asked about injury issues at today’s media conference, Rodgers shared information about the rarely seen Holm.

Brendan Rodgers brimming with enthusiasm and anticipation for his Celtic side

“We are in a really good place. Everyone is fit and healthy. We’ve only got one in Odin (Thiago Holm) who’s been out for a little while with his calves. But other than that, I’m really happy that we’ve managed to get through into this period now in a really healthy way. So, all fine fitness wise.”

The availability of Callum McGregor, Adam Idah, and Nicolas Kuhn adds quality and depth to the squad for Saturday’s match against Aberdeen.

Unless there is an outbreak of injuries, it is difficult to see how Holm can revive his Celtic career, with a loan or permanent transfer in January appearing to be the most logical option.
