Rodgers on key Celtic contract talks: “I absolutely love it.”
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed that contract talks have begun between the club and Cameron Carter-Vickers.
After a highly successful season on loan, the defender signed a four-year contract with Spurs in the summer of 2022 for around £6 million.
Despite being younger than Carl Starfelt and Josip Juranovic, Carter-Vickers brought composure and organisation to Celtic’s defence as Ange Postecoglou imposed his style on the team.
Juranovic and Starfelt have moved on to Germany and Spain, respectively; however, a report from the United States in midweek suggested that the former Spurs player was highly sought after in England.
Even though he is less than halfway through his contract, these issues must be addressed, with Rodgers telling The Sun about Celtic’s plans for their top defender:
Cam is undeniably one of the team’s pillars, and we would naturally want to keep him. I am confident that this will happen in time.
There have been discussions between the club and his representatives, so we’ll see where things go. Is he good enough to play in the English Premier League? Based on what I’ve seen and worked with, I believe he is capable of playing at that level.
He needed to get away and discover the pressures here. But, while he undoubtedly possesses all of the necessary tools, his happiness has arrived. He and his partner absolutely adore it up here. We would prefer to keep him here.

Carter-Vickers will miss today’s Scottish Cup match against Buckie Thistle due to injury, but he should be in contention to face Ross County next Saturday.
