Sam Lammers has been told by Philippe Clement that even the ‘top strikers’ like Erling Haaland miss the chance he did against Aberdeen.

The beleaguered Dutch forward hasn’t lit up Ibrox since his arrival in the summer under predecessor Michael Beale, and passed up a glorious chance to add even more drama to Rangers‘ 1-1 draw with the Dons at Pittodrie after a late penalty was awarded through VAR to Clement’s men. Lammers was handed a golden opportunity after captain James Tavernier had drawn level but fired a free header straight at Kelle Roos. The 26-year-old has managed just two goals in 24 appearances this season for the Light Blues.

And while Clement shifted the blame from the forward for passing up the chance to cut the gap on Celtic further, he believes it was a question of centimeters from the Dutchman sealing what would have been a priceless win for the still unbeaten boss.

He told BBC Sportsound: “Sam Lammers came in and did really well and he’s really close to scoring the decisive goal. That’s part of football, you need a bit of luck. I also see top strikers like Haaland not scoring on every cross. We were in a good position and he tried his best to put it in the corner and it’s a question of centimeters in.”
