SFA announce referee and VAR for weekend League Cup semi-finals
Kevin Clancy will referee Saturday’s League Cup semi-final between Celtic and Aberdeen at Hampden.
The referee from Glasgow has seemed to fall in the ranks; he was not used for any of the five Glasgow Derbies last season.
Clancy has officiated just seven games this season. On Saturday, he was involved in the non-VAR incident at Dens Park, where he had to make a decision to give St Johnstone a goal because there were no VAR lines.
Clancy officiated Celtic’s August League Cup victory over Hibs. Two weeks prior, he had presided over Aberdeen’s victory in their first SPFL game away to St Johnstone.
With three different polls releasing tickets to Season Ticket holders, Celtic will have the support of almost 30,000 fans at Hampden.
Nick Walsh will referee the other semi-final, while Alan Muir will serve as Motherwell’s VAR for the second consecutive Sunday. Andrew Dallas will serve as VAR for Saturday’s encounter, which is played to the end.
