The SFA has announced a surprising new initiative involving VAR.

‘The VAR Review’ will air monthly on the Scottish FA’s YouTube channel, attempting to explain every contentious decision made in Scottish football in the previous four weeks.

Matchday audio will be used to determine whether each decision was correct or incorrect.

The new scheme comes as the SFA seeks to improve communication with clubs and supporters when controversial decisions must be explained.

Since its introduction in Scotland in 2022, VAR has generated a plethora of discussion points and been widely criticised.

Overall, it has been relatively effective, though there has been some controversy.

Celtic, for example, were subjected to a number of poor decisions by officials last season at Tynecastle. Brendan Rodgers was harsh in his post-match criticism of John Beaton.

If such incidents occur now, they will be fully explained at the end of the month during the VAR review.

The first episode of the show is already available on YouTube, and it features several decisions made by Willie Collum, the Head of Refereeing for Scottish football.

He attempts to explain them and determine whether those on the pitch and in the VAR room got them right or wrong.

Fans can expect monthly episodes of this exciting new initiative.

In other news, £5 million Celtic flop who was sold by Rodgers is outscoring Kyogo this season.
