Sheffield Wednesday F.C.
Sheffield used to be Wednesday, Barnsley, and Millwall players among frontrunners to join Harrogate Town.
Former Barnsley, Sheffield Wednesday, and Millwall players are among the top contenders to join Harrogate Town during the summer transfer window.
Harrogate FC is gearing up for their fifth season in the EFL, following a remarkable journey from non-league play. Regular promotions may be in the past, but the club’s ability to remain stable in League Two is impressive.
However, Simon Weaver will not rest on his laurels ahead of the 2024/25 season. The Sulphurites have added new players to their team, including England C-capped defender Zico Asara.
The team has recruited Stephen Duke-McKenna from Queens Park Rangers, but has lost Rod McDonald and Abraham Odoh. With two in and two out, Harrogate appears to be far from finished in the transfer market.
Jordan Smith – 4/1
Harrogate appears to be focusing on goalkeeping this summer, given the departures of Peter Jameson, Jonathan Mitchell, and Lewis Thomas. Smith is now a free agent, having departed League Two champions Stockport County.
He previously played for Barnsley while on loan from Nottingham Forest.
Joe Walsh – 8/1
Walsh, another possible goalkeeper, has signed a new contract with Queens Park Rangers but does not figure to be the club’s number one anytime soon. A loan transfer might propel him up the rankings.
Aiden O’Brien – 10/1
A seasoned frontman with Republic of Ireland caps, O’Brien spent last season on loan with Sutton United. He was released by Shrewsbury Town at the end of the season and is now available as a free agent.
Matt Penney – 10/1
The former Sheffield Wednesday defender is now a free agent after being released by Ipswich Town last year. It’s not easy to get back on track after such a long absence, but Penney has the potential to excel in League Two.
D’Margio Wright-Phillips, 14/1
He is the son of former Premier League winger Shaun, therefore football runs in his blood. He left Stoke City at the end of the 2023/24 season, having previously played for Manchester City and England at junior level.

Ryan Bennett, 18/1
Bennett, another free agent who has left Cambridge United, is currently on the market. The 34-year-old centre-back is an intimidating figure who has competed in all four categories of the English professional game.
