Nottingham Forest
‘So important.’ Nuno really wants to play this £32.5 million Nottingham Forest duo together.
Nuno, Nottingham Forest’s manager, has stated that he wants to play strikers Chris Wood and Taiwo Awoniyi together.
Nuno has also emphasised the importance of players’ flexibility in their positions.
So, what did Nuno say about Nottingham Forest’s Chris Wood and Taiwo Awoniyi? Let’s have a look.
Nuno comments on Nottingham Forest’s Chris Wood and Taiwo Awoniyi.
Nottingham Forest will face Newcastle United at the City Ground in the Premier League on Saturday evening.
Forest will be without Chris Wood. The striker is injured and will be sidelined for up to eight weeks.
Taiwo Awoniyi, however, is available. The striker scored the winning penalty kick in the FA Cup victory over Bristol City in midweek.
Nuno, the Forest manager, has lamented the inability to play Wood and Awoniyi together.
Nuno told Sky Sports: “We haven’t had the opportunity to have both strikers available. Using them both during a match would be extremely beneficial to us. At the same time, let’s see if we can develop versatile players, as this is also important.
“Players must be able to play multiple positions on the field because this allows us to change a player’s position during a game rather than changing the player.
“For example, Morgan [Gibbs-White] started the previous game as an offensive player, but we were able to move him to second midfield to add another offensive option. This is what we’re trying to see and create.
My opinion: Exciting for the next season.
The fact that Nottingham Forest head coach Nuno wants to play Chris Wood and Taiwo Awoniyi together excites City Ground fans.
This suggests that Nuno wants to play attacking football and help his teams score goals.
The Forest manager is known for playing conservative football at Wolverhampton Wanderers and Tottenham Hotspur.
I believe that playing Wood and Awoniyi together will be exciting for the audience. It will also cause concern for the opposition’s defence. Even if Wood leaves at the end of the season, it appears that Nuno could use another striker and pair him with Awoniyi.
Awoniyi is under contract with Forest until the summer of 2027. He has been with the Reds since the summer of 2022, when he signed from Union Berlin for £17.5 million.sky sports new
In his 39 Premier League appearances, the 26-year-old Nigeria international striker has 15 goals and three assists.
Wood cost Forest £15 million (The Athletic) in transfer fees after signing on a permanent basis from Newcastle following a loan spell.
In his 216 Premier League appearances, the 32-year-old New Zealand international striker has scored 63 goals and assisted eight times. Wood is under contract with Forest until the summer of 2024.
