Sources: Celtic open talks to sign another attacking star after deal is agreed.
According to sources, Celtic have opened talks to sign another attacking star after the deal has been agreed.
Celtic have started talks with Danish club Brondby to sign striker Mathias Kvistgaarden this month, according to Football Insider.
It is believed that the Hoops are still negotiating a deal to sign the 21-year-old, who has been a standout in the Danish top flight this season.
Brendan Rodgers’ side is still active in the market this month, looking to bolster their attack after losing a number of players to the Asian Cup, including Hyeongyu Oh, Daizen Maeda, and Hyunjun Yang.
As Football Insider reported last month (28 December), the Hoops have prioritised a striker, a central midfielder, and a left winger in the January transfer window.
Celtic are putting the finishing touches on a deal for Nicolas Kuhn, which sources say is almost complete.
Meanwhile, Kvistgaarden has played as both a striker and a winger in his career and has notched seven goals and seven assists in 21 appearances in all competitions this season.
Since his academy debut in November 2020, he has proven to be an invaluable asset for Brondby.
Kvistgaarden signed a new contract with the club in May, keeping him on until the summer of 2027.
The 2002-born star has 21 goals and 12 assists in 81 appearances for Brondby, helping them win the league title in 2021-22.
He has been a regular for Denmark’s youth teams since his debut for the under-18s in September 2019, most recently playing for the under-21s in a European Championship qualifier against Wales.
Celtic remain top of the league with an eight-point gap on second-place Rangers before the winter break, and will face Buckie Thistle in the Scottish Cup on January 21.
