Stephen Welsh admission on Celtic teammate Nicolas Kuhn

Stephen Welsh has had an injury-plagued season thus far, but things are looking up for the Celtic central defender.

Welsh was on a high in the summer after Brendan Rodgers gave him a new contract that runs until 2027. However, those good vibes were dashed just a day later when the Scotsman suffered a serious ankle injury in Lennoxtown.

That happened in August, and Welsh spent much of the first half of the season rehabilitating the issue with Celtic’s medical staff.

He returned in the Champions League win over Feyenoord, putting in a strong 75-minute performance that will have boosted his confidence significantly.

Welsh has since played against Dundee and Rangers before helping Celtic return to domestic action after the winter break with a Scottish Cup victory over Buckie Thistle.

He’ll have been involved in Celtic’s intense first-team training for several weeks and has recently been joined at Lennoxtown by a new face, Nicolas Kuhn.

Kuhn has yet to make his Celtic debut, but he could face Ross County in the league this weekend. And based on what Welsh has recently said about him, the 24-year-old is more than prepared to make his mark in the famous hoops.
