Stuart Armstrong tells his new MLS club what it was like to play for ‘very tough’ Celtic

After leaving Southampton at the end of last season, Armstrong was a sought-after free agent during the summer transfer window.

Stuart Armstrong reflects on Celtic spell

In response to a question about the different teams he has played for from his new side, Armstrong stated of the Bhoys, “Celtic is a very tough place to be, especially when things aren’t going well.” I had a difficult beginning when I first moved there, but after that, things truly started to click.

One of the highlights of my career was winning the Invincible Treble; it was incredible. We needed to win every week in order to qualify for the Champions League.

It was amazing to win two trebles in a row. After I left, I believe they won another treble. It’s an amazing club with amazing supporters. Playing in the stadium has an amazing atmosphere.

Armstrong played 144 games for the team, winning eight trophies and tallying 28 goals. He can look back on his time with the Bhoys with pride, and many fans have positive memories of him, particularly because of his play after Brendan Rodgers joined the team.

The midfield player’s decision to move across the Atlantic may cause some to wonder if he could have continued to play at a high level in Europe. Armstrong, though, is loving the new challenge.The Scotland international gave the following explanation when asked why he was joining the Whitecaps: “Honestly, at this point in my career, I was looking for a new experience and a new challenge.” It felt right, and Vancouver is an incredible city. I can’t wait to play football again and to be back here.
