Sunderland pick out name for January signing – Loan with purchase option may be possible

Sunderland have identified LOSC Lille’s Alan Virginius as a potential January transfer window target, with a loan deal potentially on the cards.

According to Foot Mercato, the youngster has grown ‘disillusioned’ with life at the French club and may leave this month.

They explain that Virginius, who joined Lille from Sochaux 18 months ago after a quick rise in Ligue 2 and a role in the French U20 team, has grown dissatisfied with life at the club.
He’s only made five appearances this season, three of which have come in the Europa League, and it’s clear that he’s not in Lille’s plans.
The time has come for him to see if the grass is greener elsewhere, and Sunderland, along with Clermont Foot and Young Boys, have ‘checked the name’ of the 20-year-old attacking midfielder.

The latter are the most aggressive and have already submitted a bid, offering a loan with a purchase option of around €4.5 million, including bonuses.

As a result, if Sunderland wants it, that deal could be on the table, though they have yet to submit a bid.

They might want to do so soon, though, because Young Boys have already made their move and are hoping to sign Virginius this month.
