Taiwo Awoniyi shares what really upset the Nottingham Forest dressing room on Saturday
What truly let the Nottingham Forest dressing room down on Saturday is revealed by Taiwo Awoniyi.
It was unfortunate that Forest was unable to record three points at the City Ground on Saturday for the first time this season.
Awoniyi and the Forest team agreed on that point of view shortly after Jean-Ricner Bellegarde tied the score, moments after Chris Wood had given the Reds the lead.
“We did everything right and did everything we needed to,” Awoniyi said to Flash Score, “but unfortunately, we didn’t get the three points, which is the only thing missing.”It is with regret that we acknowledge this. We played really well together as a team. We performed well, scoring one goal and an additional one that was called back.
“The season has just begun, and there is still much work ahead of us. It makes no difference who we play against; our goal at City Ground is always to win.
“They still think we should have won even when we tie in close games. Therefore, we always aim to win each and every game.
After the international break, Awoniyi has to demonstrate his fitness.
Throughout the transfer window, some extremely inappropriate things have been said about Awoniyi.
The player who joined Forest from Union Berlin in 2022 has helped the team out a lot since joining, so he deserves a little more deference.
This season, though, Awoniyi will need to regain his confidence on the pitch and get fully fit at some point.
He appeared to be carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders against Newcastle, and that isn’t the Awoniyi we know and love.
Since Nuno Espirito Santo decided not to bring in a new striker this summer, Awoniyi is under pressure to start scoring goals again.
The striker needs to start scoring again because Nigeria has a difficult run ahead of them. He should play for his country during this international break.
