The Browns had the league’s greatest defense last season, but the same could not be said for their offense, which is why they decided to change offensive coordinator this summer.

Alex Van Pelt had held the role since 2020, but Cleveland fired him after a 45-14 loss to the Houston Texans in the wild-card round of the playoffs.

Ken Dorsey has subsequently been named the team’s new offensive coordinator, and he has received encouraging early feedback from his new playmakers, including tight end David Njoku.

“It is juicy,” Njoku told Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal. “I am not going to say anything else. Leave it at that. But I’m really excited for this year.”

Njoku was one of the few bright spots on offense last year, recording a career-high 81 receptions for 882 yards and six touchdowns while playing with five different quarterbacks.

The Pro Bowl tight end will have to adjust with quarterback Deshaun Watson returning to the starting lineup and a new offensive system, but he appears to be excited about the 2024 season.

Dorsey has spent the last five seasons with the Bills, getting the most out of quarterback Josh Allen. The Browns are hoping he can do the same with Watson, who has struggled in his first two seasons in Cleveland.

Since joining the team in 2022, Watson has appeared in only 12 games and thrown 14 touchdowns and nine interceptions.

An improved Watson will help Njoku take his game to the next level in 2024, as will Dorsey’s tight end-friendly offense.

During Dorsey’s two seasons as offensive coordinator, Buffalo’s tight ends combined for 154 catches for 1,493 yards and 12 touchdowns.

That has given Njoku hope for his future with the Browns, since his current contract expires in two years.

“I appreciate the city of Cleveland tremendously,” Njoku said. “Becoming a man here, there’s a lot that entails. It’s so much deeper than just that statement. You get me? So, yeah, I’m blessed. I’m truly blessed to be here.”

In other news, Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson issues a three-word message following an off-field injury scare.
