Tensions Rise as Green Brigade Turned Away by Celtic Chief Nicholson
According to the Green Brigade, their delegates were turned away from a planned meeting with Michael Nicholson, the CEO of Celtic. They were scheduled to meet with Nicholson on October 3 to talk about the establishment of The Celtic End and other urgent issues, according to the group’s most recent North Curve Celtic bulletin.
But according to the group, they were turned away when they got at Celtic Park because one of their representatives was “not to Michael’s liking.” The Green Brigade claims that this is because of the person’s “relationship with Palestine,” characterizing the decision as a “cynical and uncomfortable” development.
This follows a prior incident in which Celtic management declared a pro-Palestine performance during a game to be “unacceptable,” leading to tension between the club and the group. In an earlier letter to the Green Brigade, the club criticized the performance and mentioned instances at away games where the group’s members were temporarily barred. Importantly, Celtic claimed that the presence of Palestinian flags had nothing to do with the prohibition.
Although the previous banning order has subsequently been revoked, the Green Brigade has criticized this recent occurrence even more and has not received a formal answer from the club over the postponed meeting.
“We remain eager to discuss the idea with the club, to have the opportunity to explore all and any other options, and above all conduct a full and proper fan consultation,” the group said in a statement expressing their anger. They also stated that they will keep pushing for The Celtic End’s development wherever they can, despite what they call the club’s “intransigence.”
