Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla was uninterested in making excuses. They were missing Kristaps Porzingis and Al Horford against the East’s No. 2 team, but he had had enough.

“Just figure it out,” Mazzulla said before the game.

The Celtics had dropped four straight games to the upstart Magic, including a humiliating loss the day after Thanksgiving last month. They were a code they couldn’t decipher. Of course, they figured it out while they were shorthanded.

Jayson Tatum scored 30 points and Jaylen Brown added 18 for the Celtics, who came out firing on all cylinders on the second night of a back-to-back. They were humming offensively and suffocating defensively as they took control in the second quarter to defeat the Magic 128-111 at TD Garden on Friday night, their fourth consecutive victory.

The Celtics received contributions from all over the court despite the absence of four players, including Luke Kornet and Dalano Banton. Derrick White had 19 points and eight assists, Payton Pritchard had 21 points on six 3-pointers, and Sam Hauser had 11 points and four of the Celtics’ 14 steals.

As the Celtics improved to 13-0 at home, they finished with 31 assists on 48 made field goals and forced the Magic into 21 turnovers.

In other news, Is Derrick White deserving of All-Star consideration for the Celtics?
