Forest defender Niakhate was the only one to miss a penalty as Senegal were eliminated by the Ivory Coast in the last 16.

Last night, he recovered to score Forest’s fourth penalty in the shootout, as the Reds converted all five spot kicks.

The only player missing was Bristol City’s Sam Bell, who had been excellent throughout the game, and Niakhate saved his celebrations for the Robins player.

On BBC Radio Nottingham, Fray praised Forest defender Moussa Niakhate’s “classy” performance. Now, before he begins celebrating, he goes straight over to Sam Bell, the only man who saw a penalty saved tonight, and they’ve only had a few moments together.

“That’s a very nice touch from Niakhate, given what he’s just endured at the African Cup of Nations”

Niakhate is a man who appears to be capable of becoming Forest captain one day, and he set an excellent example with this classy gesture.

It’s never good to miss a penalty in a shootout. In the end, Bristol City relied more on penalty kicks than Forest did.

Before the 2022/23 season, the Reds hadn’t played Manchester United in many years. They are now preparing to face them for the seventh time in two seasons!

Niakhate looks every bit the captain at Forest, and this moment exemplifies what a talent Nuno Espirito Santo has at his disposal.
