Rangers will almost certainly pursue another forward in the January transfer window.

While Danilo is currently out injured, Cyriel Dessers is still attempting to convince the Rangers fanbase.

Add to that Kemar Roofe’s inability to stay fit, and Rangers may believe they require another goal scorer.

Another rumour has surfaced from Portugal, claiming that Rangers are interested in Wolves striker Fabio Silva…

The story so far, Fabio Silva

Silva is from Gondomar in Portugal, just outside of Porto, so it’s no surprise that he began his career there.

The 6f1 striker spent a few years with rivals Benfica before returning to Porto before the age of 16.

Silva rose through the Porto ranks and became a regular goalscorer for Portugal at various youth levels.

Silva made his senior debut for Porto in 2019, making him the club’s youngest-ever player at 17 years and 22 days.

Silva’s potential was demonstrated by three goals in 21 senior games, but he was sold to Wolves for a staggering £35 million less than a year later.

The move hasn’t gone well; Silva has only five goals in 73 games for Wolves.

Silva spent the first half of last season on loan at Belgian club Anderlecht, scoring 11 goals in 32 appearances.

PSV Eindhoven swooped in to sign Silva on loan, and the Portuguese forward scored five goals in 19 games.

Silva, who is now back with Wolves, has only started three Premier League games this season and could be available for loan again.

What they say about Fabio Silva

Fábio Silva deve deixar o Wolverhampton e é disputado na Escócia

“He’s a young lad who is working every single day. He’s been fantastic since he came in. He works so, so hard to improve and get better, and you see that now, said former Wolves teammate Conor Coady in 2022.

“Fabio is a young player who shows not only incredible technical ability, but also his game intelligence for a player of his age is top class. He has the ability to drop in to link play and hold the ball up to bring others into play. He always then looks to get in the box and his movement and intelligence in the penalty area is as good as anyone’s. Fabio has the potential to be a generational talent and for us to see him develop under Nuno is very exciting. He is the type of player our fans will love,” Wolves chairman Jeff Shi after signing Silva in 2020.

“When Ronaldo was 17, he played as a centre-forward for Sporting’s youth teams. I saw him doing things that I’m now seeing a boy from Porto do, Fabio Silva. He will be a hell of a player. In a short time, he will be an extraordinary striker,” said Manuel Fernandes, a former Premier League midfielder, in 2018.

Analysis of Fabio Silva to Rangers

Rangers spent heavily on attackers over the summer, bringing in Dessers, Danilo, and Sam Lammers.

This means that spending more money on strikers will be difficult, and Rangers may have to settle for a loan signing.

Silva fits the bill, especially given that he has scored goals in his previous loan spells away from Wolves.

Philippe Clement and Nils Koppen, the new director of football recruitment, are both Belgians who may have witnessed Silva’s exploits at Anderlecht.

Koppen was also a member of the PSV recruitment team that brought Silva to the club in January of this year.

The links are there, and Silva would undoubtedly be an exciting January addition to Clement’s strikeforce, having demonstrated his talent and potential in fits and starts elsewhere.
