‘Very good’ – Nuno Espirito Santo delivers Newcastle United verdict supporters will love

Nuno Espirito Santo gave an honest assessment of Nottingham Forest’s 3-1 defeat to Newcastle United.

The Forest boss watched on as his side surrendered a 1-0 lead. Alexander Isak equalised shortly after the break before Joelinton and substitute Harvey Barnes secured a third straight win for the Magpies.

The Reds, meanwhile, lost for the only second time in the league this season but remain third in the table.

Espirito Santo said, “I cannot say that was a bad performance; that is completely out of the question.” We faced a formidable team that managed to keep us under control and then inflict damage using our recent counterattacking tactics. We can learn a lesson from it.

“I simply must acknowledge that we faced a strong squad today, and they outperformed us in numerous instances. Nothing can be said about the players because their belief and character were present.
At St. James’ Park last week, Newcastle defeated Arsenal in the Premier League and Chelsea in the Carabao Cup. Howe was thrilled that his team was able to win on the road after those.

Howe stated, “Very pleased because we needed some momentum.” “After three victories, there is a completely different vibe about the team because, as we often say, football can change quickly and your fortunes can turn around.” Very happy today. For us, winning a game on the road after falling down 1-0 is a significant accomplishment.

“I believe the team had a positive appearance today. I found the first half irritating because, despite my belief that we were the superior team, we were behind at the interval.

“I was a little upset because we wanted to be more direct with our attacking—I don’t necessarily mean aspects of direct, but I mean participating in one-on-one duels and not turning down forward passes.

In my opinion, we performed far better in the second half, both physically and otherwise. I believed we were in a strong position, therefore we earned the goals we did.
