Watch as Brendan Rodgers throws pragmatic dig back at Scottish media
Brendan Rodgers has been receiving nearly daily lectures on pragmatism ever since the final whistle in Dortmund three weeks ago.
The Irishman had witnessed his team lose by seven goals for the third time in the Champions League, and Matchday 3 in Bergamo looked to be another tough one.
Following the Dortmund game During Tuesday’s pre-match press conference, Rodgers stuck to his mantra and his team lines remained in the playing three striker formation.
With one crucial exception—far fewer self-inflicted mistakes—the form and strategies were the same, but Adam Idah provided a greater physical outlet than Kyogo Furuhashi. No gifts were given to Atalanta!
Even though Rodgers doesn’t listen to the media’s criticism, losing seven goals three times isn’t good luck, so tonight was obviously a huge point for him.
With the new Champions League presenting real prospects for advancement, a point away from home against the Europa League winners is well worth adding to his resume.
That 10-point goal is beginning to loom in the distance as they play three of their next five games at home, including RB Leipzig and Brugge at Celtic Park.
European advancement was the carrot for Rodgers when he rejoined Celtic in June 2023. The previous season was a lost chance, but this time it appears the Irishman is in charge and headed in the right direction.
